About Us

The Wakefield High School Choral Music program is committed to the total music education of each student. Our mantra is that 'Smart Singers Make Great Music'. In addition to the development of solid vocal pedagogical practices and fostering good choral rehearsal skills, students entering the choral music program receive instruction in sight singing, aural skills, music theory, music history and music appreciation. The choral music department currently serves over 150 students annually and consists of two primary performing ensembles. The Mixed Chorus is offered both semesters and is open to all students whether they choose to take one semester or two semesters. The Advanced Women's Chorale is a year long commitment for our women and is an auditioned ensemble.

The Wakefield High School Choral Booster program is a vital part of the choral community at our school and assist in producing four major concerts each year. Many of our students participate in our annual Spring Soiree and are active in the TRI-M Music Honor Society. The choruses consistently receive Superior ratings at NCMEA's Large Ensemble Adjudication and/or Solo-Small Ensemble Adjudications each year. The Wakefield HS choirs are often invited to perform for winter graduation, baccalaureate, awards day, senior awards night, other school related functions as well as for local churches and community events. The Wakefield HS choral program continues to grow both in numbers and musical maturity under the direction of Mr. John-Philip Mullinax.
