Godspell Broadway Revival Aiming for Spring/Summer 2011

The postponed Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak's Godspell, which had been scheduled to begin previews in September 2008, is now aiming for a Broadway bow in spring/summer 2011, according to an Equity casting notice quoted in Playbill.com.

Casting has yet to be announced, however, American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo and Tony nominee Gavin Creel had been scheduled to star back in 2008.

Ken Davenport will produce the 2011 revival. No official announcement about the production has been made.

Godspell features a score by Schwartz and a book by Tebelak. Based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew, the musical, press notes state, uses "improvisation and contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, [bringing] these lessons to life through the grand tradition of musical theatre."

Song titles include "Day By Day," "Save The People," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side."
